Fees and payments

Fees

As each doctor charges differently, gaps will vary. It is your responsibility to ask about the fees specific to your doctor; these will also be provided to you in your initial appointment letter. Payment is required in full on the day of treatment. For skype or phone consults where a fee is required, we will contact you the day before your appointment to take payment.

You will be provided with a full quote (informed financial consent) prior to any procedures, as well as when the fees for these are due.

Private patients

If you are attending SA Group of Specialists as a private patient (that is, with private health insurance), you may still have a gap to pay for each of your appointments. This is because if you are seeing a specialist you are classed as an ‘outpatient’ so only Medicare can cover the cost of your appointment, which is 85% of the scheduled fee (set by them).

If you see an allied health provider (such as a dietitian or psychologist) this is generally not covered under Medicare (unless you are under an Enhanced Primary Care plan) but may be partially covered by your ‘extras’ health insurance (depending on your level of cover).

Uninsured patients

You may wish to seek private treatment despite not having health insurance. In this case, you may still be eligible for a Medicare rebate for your appointments. However, you will be liable for the full costs associated with hospital treatment. We can provide a quote (informed financial consent) if this is required.

Payments

You will be required to pay your account in full on the day. If you are eligible to claim a Medicare rebate, we will process this online and you will receive your rebate direct back into your bank account. If you are eligible to claim a Private Health Insurance rebate, you can swipe your card and simply pay the ‘gap’.
