Cathy Martin has over 30 years’ experience as a Psychologist in private practice. She has always worked to assist people achieve their goals, whether they be sport, physical and mental health, work or well-being. Her early career focused on sport psychology and culminated in attending the Atlanta Olympics with the Australian Team.
Over the last 15 years she has developed a special interest in the management gut-brain disorders such as IBS. This expertise is relevant in IBD, due to the stress and anxiety generated in managing a health condition. This stress can have an exacerbatory effect on physical symptoms, so is important to control. Research for the benefits of psychological therapies is well established in IBS and growing in IBD.
Cathy is a member of a Rome Foundation (an international psychogastro group) and founder and Director of Specialised Gut Psychology. She has also given many presentations on psychology and gut health.
