Your GP is the cornerstone of your medical care. They will receive an update each time you visit a member of the IBD SA team, and can contact us at any time if they are concerned about your progress.
It is important to see your GP to monitor your general health, provide any recommended vaccination, and organise other general tests such as mole checks, Pap smears and bone mineral densities. They can also prescribe most medications commenced by your gastroenterologist, with the exception of specialised biological drugs.
A referral is required from your GP to see a gastroenterologist, and can also be provided for the dietitian and psychologist, in order to receive a Medicare rebate.
